Department of Earth Sciences, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3AN
The Department of Earth Sciences wish to recruit a Senior Research Associate in Natural Resource Innovation to join
our thriving academic community. The role will start from 5th January 2026 or later by mutual agreement. The
appointment will be for 5 years.
This post related to Earth Sciences is one of four Senior Research Associate posts being created as part of the new
strategic research programme, Oxford EARTH (Equitable Access to sustainable Resources for a Thriving Habitat).
The other three posts span other departments including Chemistry, Materials, Engineering, Geography, Law, and
Economics). Oxford EARTH closely interacts with other strategic research programmes at Oxford, including Oxford
Net Zero, the Zero Institute and Sustainable Chemistry.
We are looking for a creative researcher in the broad area of natural resources including, but not limited to:
economic geology, geothermal systems, waste storage and valorisation (e.g., radioactive waste, CO2, acid mine
drainage), resource recovery and recycling, and natural hydrogen.
Successful applicants will work at the forefront of resource innovation in the Earth Sciences and capitalise on these

new directions in this research area. Furthermore, the use of large datasets and machine learning methods are
unlocking new possibilities.
The successful candidate will work in partnership with the broader Oxford EARTH team, in particular engagement
and collaboration with the social sciences, and may have the opportunity to deliver class teaching and
demonstrations on relevant natural resource topics.
