In October 2024, the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) of the Development Bureau announced the exciting news of the discovery of dinosaur fossils on Port Island in Hong Kong Geopark, which highlighted Hong Kong’s geological diversity and valuable geological heritage, sparking interest of many.
With the support of Hong Kong Geopark, our Hong Kong Regional Group has arranged an exciting boat trip to visit Port Island and other locations with sedimentary and/or fossil-bearing rocks. Geopark officers will introduce the recent discovery and initial research findings, current understanding of the depositional environment and likely processes associated with the formation of fossils, and a brief history of fossil discovery in Hong Kong.
The trip will take place from 09:00–17:00 HKT.
