01 - 02 October 2025 | 09:00 - 17:00 | Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BG,

The Mineral Resource Evaluation Conference 2025 (MRE25) will bring together geoscientists and other professionals to discuss the status and future of resource evaluation and share case studies.

Session topics will showcase leading practice and advancements in:

  • sampling/quality assurance and quality control (QAQC);
  • geological modelling;
  • geostatistical estimation and simulation;
  • predictive geometallurgy;
  • inputs into reasonable prospects for economic extraction;
  • project risk analysis;
  • grade control and reconciliation; and
  • resource reporting (inc. Environmental, Social and Governance [ESG] matters).

The conference will promote the exchange of information through keynote presentations, regular presentations, poster presentations and a panel discussion. There will be a networking drinks reception on the first evening, kindly supported by our Platinum Sponsor, Snowden Optiro

Topics covered within this conference include:

  • How do we collect and maintain representative samples across the mine value chain?
  • Limitations of current estimation techniques
  • Learning from past failures to improve future practice
  • How do we ensure estimates are clearly and accurately communicated to end-users?
  • Considerations of reasonable prospects for (eventual) economic extraction
  • Quantifying and communicating variability in resource models
  • Optimal mine grade control and reconciliation
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning

The conference will be of interest to all those who work on Mineral Resource Evaluation across the mine value chain. It will be relevant to practice in the following domains: exploration geology, resource development, resource estimation/geostatistics, and mining/production geology. Those who work across industry, consulting and academic sectors are encouraged to attend.

  • Dr Simon Dominy – Snowden Optiro / Camborne School of Mines
  • Prof. Hylke Glass – Camborne School of Mines
  • Helen Oliver – Endeavour Mining
  • Dr Belinda van Lente – Hummingbird Resources

The Call for Abstracts is now closed.

Keynotes

"Advanced resource modelling through rapid user-supervised automated workflows"

Headshot of the mineral resource evaluation conference speaker

Dr Julian Ortiz is the Mark Cutifani / Anglo American Chair in Mining Innovation at Camborne School of Mines, where he focusses on geostatistics and predictive geometallurgy, developing algorithms for numerical modeling of geoscientific and mine production data to model the mineral resources and mining processes, predict performance and manage risk, associated to all stages of the extraction and processing of the materials mined.

He received a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Universidad de Chile (Chile), and a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering, specialising in Geostatistics, from University of Alberta (Canada). Subsequently, he worked at Universidad de Chile, where he became Head of Department and led several large projects with public and private funding. He then moved to Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, where he was Associate Professor and Head of Department. Dr Ortiz also founded the startup Annapurna Suite in Canada, specialised on workflow automation and advanced algorithms in resource modeling, where he is currently Director and Principal Consultant.

"Smart Modelling: AI and Machine Learning in Geometallurgy’s Digital Transformation"

Glacialle Tiu

Dr Glacialle Tiu is an Associate Senior Lecturer at the Division of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, Lulea University of Technology. Her research focuses on integrating ore geology and mineral processing to advance the field of geometallurgy, where her core expertise lies in the comprehensive characterisation of complex ores and the integration of traditional and AI-based analytical techniques to support 3D modelling, simulation, and geometallurgical modelling.

Glacialle's key areas of specialisation include: Geological characterisation and geometallurgical modelling of complex polymetallic ores; Application of machine learning and data fusion in real-time ore tracking; 3D geological modelling and simulation using advanced software tools; Design and implementation of digital and gamified learning systems in mining education; and Multiscale analytical instrumentation, mineral processing, and ore variability assessment.

Glacialle earned her Ph.D. in Ore Geology from Lulea, where she focused on the geometallurgy of the Lappberget Zn-Pb-Ag-(Cu-Au) deposit in Sweden.
