The 'Fookes Meeting for Engineering Geology' (FMEG) will be held every two years by the Geological Society, by virtue of a generous donation from Mrs Edna Fookes in memory of Peter Fookes, FGS.

Each FMG will be developed with a thematic focus aligned to our Geohazards, Geoengineering & Georesilience Science Theme, in collaboration with the wider community via our Engineering Group (EGGS) and supported by Geological Society staff.

The meeting programme has been designed to appeal to undergraduate and postgraduate students, academic researchers and those working in applied practice, with the aim to foster stronger networks and new collaborations between the Engineering Geology community and allied professions and sectors, with a particular focus on supporting early-career members of this community.

Thanks to the generous donation in Peter Fookes' name, the meeting will be free to attend for all GSL Fellows and Student Fellows (with a delegate fee for non-Fellows). The two-day hybrid event will be held in person but will also be available remotely to involve an international audience as well as those who can't get to London in person.

The inaugural meeting will combine two keynote speakers, panel discussions with invited guests, networking sessions with industry professionals, poster presentations, and a student competition alongside the main scientific programme that we anticipate will have speakers from across applied practice, academia, and government.

The Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology (QJEGH) is collaborating with the Engineering Group of the Geological Society on the 'Fookes Meeting for Engineering Geology' and wishes to extend an invite to presenters at the conference to submit a written-up version of their talk to the journal.

QJEGH welcomes a range of article types, such as case studies and technical notes. Depending on the level of interest, the opportunity to contribute to a dedicated thematic collection on the meeting topic will be available. For more info please contact the QJEGH editorial team, or visit the Geological Society stand at the event itself.
