Online content

Membership includes online access to the content of one journal option of your choice. This journal option is selected when you join. The content is hosted online on the Lyell Collection. The option can be amended in MyGSL or by contacting membership.

Members can also access over 580 book titles online in the Lyell Collection, the Book Archive online content comprises Special Publications, Engineering Geology Special Publications, and Memoirs published up until 31 December 2021.

Geoscientist magazine

Receive a quarterly print copy of Geoscientist magazine delivered to your door, featuring science, opinion and news to stimulate thinking within and beyond fields of expertise.

Burlington House 

Members can utilise common spaces at Burlington House, located in London in the heart of Mayfair. These spaces are great for meetings, study and networking.

Library & Map Room

Utilise the Society’s extensive geoscience library - and map room of over 40,000 maps - at Burlington House, which stands as one of the most comprehensive in the world. The Geological Society is also the only geological society to loan maps to its members.

Training Courses

Receive up to 50% off Training Courses by using your membership number at registration. This can be applied on top of the group booking and early-bird discounts for further savings.

All Training Courses count as CPD (Continuing Professional Development) and can be logged towards Chartership.

Online bookshop

Utilise a discount of up to 50% off print publications in the online bookshop by logging in to MyGSL.

Open Access Publishing

Utilise 25% off Article Processing Charges when publishing Open Access in a Society journal or book series.

Discount applied when the corresponding author (or at least half the authors) are a member of the Geological Society of London and the article or chapter is published in a Society journal or book series.

Become Chartered

Elevate your professional development with the Geological Society's Chartership opportunities, supported by the dedicated Chartership team.

The Geological Society of London is the recognised UK professional body for geoscientists across all areas of expertise. It awards the professional title of Chartered Geologist (CGeol) and is licensed by the Science Council to award the title of Chartered Scientist (CSci). Both titles are of equal standing.

In order to become Chartered, you must be a Fellow of the Geological Society.
