Our Hong Kong Regional Group enjoyed a day exploring Hong Kong's geological wonders on 8 June, with a field excursion to Port Island in Hong Kong Geopark and the surrounding islands.
The trip followed the exciting news that dinosaur fossils had been discovered on Port Island in October 2024. This discovery highlighted Hong Kong’s geological diversity and valuable geological heritage, and sparked much interest.

With the support of Hong Kong Geopark, our Hong Kong Regional Group arranged an exciting boat trip to visit Port Island and other locations with sedimentary and/or fossil-bearing rocks.
Geopark officers introduced the recent discovery and initial research findings, current understanding of the depositional environment and likely processes associated with the formation of fossils, and a brief history of fossil discovery in Hong Kong.

The Group's Chair, Jesse Tam said:
