On 3 July 2025, almost 30 new members were welcomed to the Society for the Library’s annual Showcase Day, introducing them to Burlington House and the wealth of services the Library has to offer.

After a talk on the Society’s history and our famous maps and paintings, attendees were introduced to the Library’s in-person and online services, with guidance from the Library team on how best to use the collections to help their research.

Library Showcase Day 2025 1

A number of treasures from the archives were on display, including Charles Darwin’s membership application letter and the giant 'colossal fossil’ lithograph. In the Map Room, new members were given the first glimpse of a recently (re)discovered 1869 map of Canada, created by Sir William Logan, founder of the Geological Survey of Canada.
